Omufirika Andrew, a Ugandan visual artist originally from Najjanankumbi in southern Kampala city, is widely recognized as Ludigo, a name he is in the process of officially shedding. His journey is profound, driven by a desire to embrace and share his artistic experience fully. Omufirika has dedicated himself to capturing Uganda's rich cultural heritage through storytelling, a process that has been deeply healing for him, helping to address significant childhood traumas.
His personal history as a child of war, disconnected from his biological father since Salema left before Tanzanian soldiers departed after Idi Amin Dada's defeat in 1979, underscores his artistic mission. Omufirika is passionately committed to using his platform to advocate for the fatherless in his community. His artistic endeavors have taken him across the globe, from Hong Kong and Australia to the United Kingdom, Djibouti, Tanzania, and the US, where he has served as an artist in residence, exhibitor, educator, and Mandela Washington Fellow.
In Uganda, Omufirika has leveraged Ludigo Creations to mentor and empower creative leaders through internship programs, particularly focusing on marginalized groups such as women and children. Currently embarking on his ambitious project, "A Tale of Two Birds," in Los Angeles, California, he aims to illuminate the interconnectedness of humanity and foster healing while disrupting cycles of dysfunction in society.
